Description

A portrait very dear to me. I believe too often in our world today too many girls my age get far too caught up in the way they look. Being in high school still, I feel I am especially exposed to this irrational insecurity. The glossy supposively "perfect" people we see in the media tend to feul the fire even more so. Even supposed "snapshots" of celebrities are photoshopped to the point they are no longer realistic in any means. It is devestating to me that so many young people feel they can not compare with these standards, especially when these people in magazines and adverts have professional makeup and hair artist, professional stylists and photographers, and not to mention countless hours of photoshop to reconstruct them into things of beauty. Not to say that these stars are not beautiful, merely saying that they are completely refurbished beyond reachable grasps.

So before I get ranting, (haha too late,) I did this and a few other shots I may be posting later to illustrate my point. I do not believe I am the prettiest girl. I do not believe I am the ugliest. But even just a full cover of makeup and some multi-colored contacts can make all the difference.

Okay I'm going to stop before I start saying ridiculously sappy things.

This picture is one of many that debates between reality and fiction. What is real and what is fake often blurs with today's technology. But it is not only now, or only one gender ,that is affected by this vanity. Maybe , just maybe, our mind works to think that if we cover up supposed imperfections on the outside , than the imperfection of ourselves in General can be covered up too.
But straining for this beauty and never achieving the inner tranquility that we really desire causes only depression. Instead of seeing what is in the mirror and seeing themselves for all that they are, the perfection on the outside only emphasizes the many sins that we have.
